Prada is known for respecting the talent of workers in other media, and occasionally calling upon them to create wonderful designs with their company. In July of 2010, Prada announced a contest that would allow illustrators from other media to try their hand at fashion design. Once again, a great line has come from Prada calling out to other talented individuals. This is the Prada Swing sunglasses line.

The Contest

In July of last year, Prada teamed with Manga to this time call on the works of comic book designers from all over to create the campaign for the Prada swing sunglasses. Prada made the eyewear, and the designers have to create the heroine that wears them. Comic book designers from all over the world competed, but only three were selected as the winners of the contest. Damon Johnstun, Dede Putra, and Nicola Gobbetto were the winners of the contest. Their heroines will be published through Prada.

So what exactly were the heroines wearing? As much of Prada’s designs often are, this collection is inspired by an era in the past. The Swing sunglasses were a vintage-styled tribute to jazz music that was popular in the past in New York.The design was even presented in one of New York’s most popular jazz clubs.

The Swing vintage-style sunglasses came in two major designs. The first of the two is a square shape. It comes in many different colors, all with the metal Prada logo at the temple. This pair of sunglasses comes in brown lenses with light or dark tortoise shell lenses, black lenses with black frames, and brown lenses with ivory frames. These sunglasses are nearly $250 a pair.

The other style that takes up much of the Swing collection is the vintage cat-eye style.
